Banks are closing accounts on businesses that have done nothing wrong. It's happening to iGaming operators with proper licences, crypto companies with regulatory registrations, FX brokers, and offshore holding structures. The businesses get a letter, usually with 72 hours' notice, and no explanation beyond "risk appetite changes." No appeal. No alternative offered.

Why Banks Do This

It's not malicious. Banks have huge compliance overheads and the easiest way to reduce risk on paper is to simply not serve certain types of businesses. iGaming, crypto, offshore structures, adult platforms — these sectors get flagged at a category level. The individual business's actual compliance quality doesn't matter. If you're in the wrong industry, you're out.

The result is that genuinely well-run businesses — ones with proper licences, compliance officers, and clean transaction histories — end up without basic payment infrastructure. Meanwhile the compliance function that rejected them gets a tick in a box.
